The Forgotten Language: An Introduction to the Understanding of Dreams, Fairy Tales, and Myths Reviews
Fromm is better known for his works on social psychology such as "Escape from Freedom," but this is a little gem in the field of dream analysis. It also goes beyond dreams to discuss the meaning of myths, rituals, and symbols in general. Highly recommended.
Interesting book with lots of professional dream interpretations of Freud and Jung and less of Fromm himself.
I have read only a small portion of the book on dreams and found it valuable and stimulating..
Fromm remains one of the most influential writers in the history of psychology. Topics in this book include: The nature of symbolic language, the nature of dreams, history of dream interpretation, symbolic language in myth, fairy tales, ritual, and novel. Also touches upon the creation myth, the Oedipus myth, the sabbath ritual, and Kafka's "The Trial."
